Tag Week: Versatile Blogger Award and Blogger Recognition Award

Hey guys! So I’ve been tagged by the amazing Koko and the lovely Carla for these two awards: the Versatile Blogger and the Blogger Recognition (as is so conveniently mentioned in the title). Thanks so much to you both! It means the world that you read and enjoy my blog!!! :D

And without further ado, let’s go ahead and leap right into this.

Ze Rules:
1) Link back to the blogger(s) who nominated you.
2) Post seven facts about yourself.
3) Nominate 15 bloggers of your own (Hehehehe, if you’ve seen me do tags before, you know that’s not going to happen. But I will do my best. :) )

Okay, seriously people, I’ve already listed so many facts about me that I’m not sure there are any interesting ones left. :p But here I go anyway.

1. I like a lot of Disney Channel songs, mostly from the show Shake it Up {which used to be one of my favorite shows, so there’s another fact for ya. ;) } True, most of them aren’t terribly high in music quality, but they’re clean, bouncy, and just plain fun to listen to, especially if you’re in the right mood.

2. I sorta, kinda, maybe-a-little-bit play the keyboard.

3. I am not very good at the keyboard, and it takes me forever and a day to learn a song because I don’t practice nearly enough. But when I finally do get one right, it makes me very happy. :D

4. When I was younger, my dad tried to teach me and my siblings to sing in harmony.

5. For some reason, I cannot sing in harmony; I just automatically follow the leading person. I don’t know why, but I cannot force myself to sing in my own key. Guess I’m just a robotic, soulless follower when it comes to singing. :p

6. I like to sing--alone. And I used to imagine that I’d become a popstar or something (I mean, what girl who watched Hannah Montana didn’t?).

7. Ice cream is the best thing ever. This is not just a fact about me--it is a simple fact of life.

That's the way to do it.
And that's it for the Versatile Blogger award! Thanks again, Koko, for nominating me! I’ll do my own nominations for that at the end of the post :)

Next up!

Ze Rules:
1. Write a post to show off your award. Make sure to attach the award picture! You can do this by right clicking, saving, and uploading the image above.
2. Give a brief story on how your blog got started, and give a piece of advice or two to new bloggers.
3. Thank whoever nominated you and provide a link to their blog.
4. Pick 15 other blogs to give this award to (hehe, we’ve already discussed this) and list them in the post. You cannot nominate yourself or the person who nominated you.
5. Comment on each blog to let them know you've nominated them. Provide a link to your award post.
6. Provide a link to the original post, Edge of Night. That way, anyone can find the original guidelines and keep the award from becoming mutated and confusing.

I did this award about nine months ago, and uh, not to boast or anything, but I really like how I told the story of my blog getting started, lol. So I’m just gonna link to that here.

Now, who can say if I’m really the best person to be giving advice to new bloggers (I guess you could do what I say, and if your blog flops, I should clearly not be your go-to sensei on blogging), but here’s a few things I’ve learned recently, besides what I give in the other post.

Yes, it is more than one or two tips. What can I say? I like to talk.

Tip 1: Have fun. Mostly because, for a while, it might be pretty lonely, lol. I don’t mean to sound like a jerk and I certainly don’t want to crush anyone's dreams or anything, but I’ve been blogging for about a year and a half now and it’s only the past few months that I’ve gotten comments on every post. For my entire first year, comments were few. I’d write a post, think it was genius... and apparently no one else agreed, lol. Or at least, they didn’t find the post and didn’t know that they would’ve agreed.

So that said, make sure that whatever you’re doing, whatever you’re blogging about, you’re doing it for you because one, why spend so much time on something if you’re not enjoying it? And two, for a while there, it might just be you and your webkinz.

My sweet little Dakari keeping me company. :D
Tip 2: Have patience. This kinda ties into the one above, because even though I knew it would take a while to get started, I didn’t realize just how long it would take for people to really get commenting, and I became very discouraged. For a while there, I even considered quitting: it was too hard, taking too long, and nobody cared anyway, or so it seemed. But I mean, now, I get at least a few comments every post, and I’ve got almost twice as many followers as I did at the beginning of the year.

So yeah, have patience with yourself as you continue to learn the ropes, and have patience with your blog. People will find it if you keep putting out awesome content and you keep having fun and showing off your unique flair. It may take time, but your gorgeous, you sparkle will eventually attract people.

Tip 3: Comment On Other Blogs. This may have been part of my problem when I first started because I didn’t network; the only blog I really read was GoTeenWriters and if you’ve been there, you know it’s really difficult to read every one of those comments and visit every one of those blogs. I don’t know if the fact that I started reading other blogs is the biggest reason I’ve gotten more views lately, but I think it is part of it. You can’t sit alone in your little corner of the blogosphere. You have to get out there, read lots of blogs, find ones you love (not because of what they can do for you, but just because they’re awesome), comment on them, and make sure to leave a link in your comment signature or have your name link back to your site. Just something so people can go, comment back, and find out how truly awesome you are.

And finally, Tip 4: Don’t spam. Okay, so I know I basically just told you to network, but don’t spam. Do not write “Great post!” and then leave your link below, because people will be skeptical about whether or not you actually even read the post (at least, I will be as I am occasionally a cynical human being). Really read people’s posts (you might find that you enjoy them outside of the purpose of networking) and leave thoughtful, encouraging comments. I always remember the people who leave great comments, it makes my day, and it makes me that much more eager to find you and leave a nice comment on one of your posts. :)

All righty *checks list of rules* I do believe we have come to--drumroll please--the nominations.

DUN DUNNA DAAAAAHHHH

Just so you know, all the nominations below are for both awards. None of you feel obligated to do these, especially if you’ve already been nominated. This is really just for me to let you know you’re awesome. :D

There are so many other awesome blogs I read, but since I’m nominating them for both the Blogger Recognition and the Versatile Blogger, it’s a bit more difficult to find ones that match both requirements. Most of the others blogs I read are either completely book or writing blogs (and they’re AMAZING) but they don’t quite match up with the VBA guidelines in my opinion. However, I mentioned most of them in last month’s Tag Week posts, so if you want to read some brilliant book and writing blogs, I’ll leave the links to those posts here and here.

Thanks again Koko and Carla for the nominations! Tell me everyone, which tag did you find the most interesting? What was your favorite tip? Favorite fact about me? Comment please!

  1. I totally understand the harmony thing. I am an alto, but it took a loooooooong time of listening to my sister sing the harmony before I ever could hear it (and sometimes I am also a souless robot singer. We all have those moments :). Ice cream IS fantastic (and that gif is amazing). And your tips are so great! Also, thanks so much for that tag! It means a lot! :P

    1. Lol, well, I'm glad it's not just me! Maybe if I'd practiced a little more, I might've been able to manage it. :)
YES I KNOW. And LOL, IKR??!! It is so funny!

Thank you! I'm glad you liked them! And no problem! Thanks for having such an awesome blog. :D

  3. Your keyboard skills sound like mine--I have, like, four songs memorized, and they took forever to learn. Like forever. And I'm super glad I learned them, but that doesn't mean I'm going to turn around and learn another one tomorrow. As for singing harmony, I can really only harmonize with CDs and my sister. It's too weird with other people, and I don't like singing in front of anyone but family members. (Okay, that made it sound like family members aren't people...)

Also, I love your blogging tips. I so wish I'd known these things when I was starting out last year. Goodness, looking back, it's kind of embarrassing how stubborn I was. I just wanted to sit in my own little corner of the blogsphere and ignore the rest of the world. And, arguably, I had a lot less time than I have now, but I still think I sent the wrong message/shot myself in the foot doing that. Considering how little I networked, I'm thinking the only reason why I started getting comments was that Heather @ Sometimes I'm a Story mentioned my blog a lot and thus did my networking for me. So yeah, never underestimate a really great blogging buddy. :)

And grr, those spammy comments. I don't really have reason to complain--I've had, like, one. But still. Now that my policy is to comment back, I'll do that no matter what, even if I'm annoyed. But I'm a really contrary person by nature, and if someone tells me to check out their blog, I start to dig in my heels. I'd rather they commented because they read my post and wanted to respond, not just so they could use me to get page views and comments, because if they comment they'll get those anyway. I don't know--does that make sense? A comment signature like yours, though, doesn't bother me because it makes it easier for me to check out your blog. It's just the, "Interesting post, check out my blog" that makes me wonder. Ah well. *shrugs* I'm sure they don't mean to be rude.

    Anyway, rant over.
Great post, thanks for sharing, and thanks for commenting on Out of Coffee, Out of Mind!

    1. LOL, I totally understand what you mean about not wanting to sing in front of most people! I'm the same--except I don't sing in front of anyone, really, not even my family.

Yay, glad you liked them! I wouldn't say I was necessarily stubborn, I just didn't know that commenting back was something I needed to do. :p Should've been obvious, I guess, but it took me a while to figure it out. :p
And yeah, Heather's awesome! She was one of my first commenters/followers, so yeah, never underestimate awesome people in the blogosphere. :)

No, I totally get that, and it's what I was trying to say with the "don't spam" tip If you comment, I will comment back, and so will a lot of bloggers. So actually leave a real /reply/ please, not just, like we said, "nice post, check out my blog."
And yeah, I don't think they mean to be rude. Like us, they probably just don't know. That's why up to us old-timers (hehe) to give them these tips. ;)

      Thanks! And no problem! :D

  4. Thank you for the nomination! Great post - (leaves link) - nah, I'm kidding :) *Points at Tip #4*

I love Disney Channel songs too, although I haven't listened to Shake It Up songs in a while. I did used to like that show though - I was always into dance shows like that. Harmonizing actually tends to be a habit of mine, like when I hear a song, I have to start harmonizing to it. And then it really bugs me when they already have so many harmonies because then I can't add an extra level of harmonization... and then... *sighs*

I definitely agree with your tips, especially number 3. I was kind of a loner blog for a while. I mean, it's not like I didn't look at other blogs, but I didn't comment unless I had something I was dying to say. You don't necessarily have to comment on every single blog post you read, but it's kinda nice when people leave me a comment and just let me know that they've visited. And it definitely helped me make more blogger friends :)

Again, thank you for the nomination! :)

    1. Haha, nice ;)

Yeah, I hadn't either until a few days ago. Then I listened to one and suddenly remembered how great they aere! And yeah, I like dance shows too, though I don't watch very many. Just Shake it Up and occasionally Dancing with the Stars.
Wow, it's so cool that you can do that! And haha, sorry! Guess there's always a downside, no matter what your talent.

*nods* Definitely. It would take forever to comment on EVERY SINGLE POST but leaving a few on each blog you visit is always a good idea. And yup, that's definitely true. :D

No problem! Thanks for having such a great blog!

  5. How wonderfully sweet of you to give me a Versatile Blogger Award. I really appreciate the thought. I wish I could jump in, but right now I'm dog paddling to shore. So many things happening. Think of me again, please. And stay in touch. <B

  6. Your advice ( like EVERYONE SINGLE WORD) *applauds you* seriously why didn't I meet you when I started out? :P And I can relate with the whole "patience" thing too, I started blogging two years ago and although I and pleased with my progress (I started out barely understanding hash tags DON'T JUDGE ME *hides face*) it's easy to feel discouraged when other bloggers become three times as successful in half the time. But you're absolutely right, having fun is the most important thing, I'm glad I'm writing about what I love :D
Also, thank for so thoughtfully tagging me!

    1. Haha, thanks! And that would've been awesome, but we both would've been just trying to figure this blogging thing out, lol. These tips are as much for myself as anyone else, seeing as they're all mistakes I've made--and within the past year.

Haha, I /still/ don't really get hashtags, so definitely no judging! And yes, that is especially discouraging, because it's hard to feel happy for them when you're staring at your own hard work that doesn't seem to have gotten anywhere. But the important thing is having fun and doing what /you/ love. That's real success. :)

You're welcome! Thanks for having such a wonderful blog! :D

  7. Ooh, I like your facts! I do not play the keyboard, but I plink keys, so I think you're ahead in that regard. And even if you can't sing harmonies, at least you CAN sing. Some of us are not quite so lucky. ;) Also, that is the most perfect GIF regarding ice cream ever, and if I had such a spoon it would lord over all the ice cream my mother deigns to purchase.

I also completely agree with all your advice—mostly because they are all product of mistakes I made myself! (Well, maybe not spamming.) But, I definitely agree. You need to have fun, you need to be patient, and you need to network, because otherwise it will all come to naught. I'm so glad you decided to keep blogging. (Alas, I've already done these tags, but thank you so much for nominating me! :) )

    1. Haha, well, what I meant by "sing alone" was "sing alone in my bedroom with the door closed and locked." So yeah. I don't know if I can really sing or not. :p
YES, ME TOO. I need to find that spoon, LOL

Yeah, these are basically all mistakes I made too (even the spamming, though I had no idea it was a problem for a while. :p ). Thank you! I am too :)
Oh that's fine! I thought you might've done the Blogger Recognition, but I wasn't sure about the Versatile Blogger. Anyways, like I said, it's just to let you know you're awesome :D

  8. Ahahaha, that "thank you" GIF is creeping me out and I don't know why. XD

THANK YOU SO MUCH ALEXA FOR DOING THIS! :') I really, really enjoyed hearing those facts! Ah, I was grinning; you are hilarious. That is so, SO cool that you sing - do you ever sing and play keys at the same time? Also, that GIF. Like. BAHAHA. Now THAT is a spoonful. B)

LOVED your advice; every bit of it is true! As much as it's fun to check your stats every hour (haha . . . hi *waves guiltily*), I think it's so important to learn to blog because you love to blog, and not do it JUST for the feedback, because, well, you might get disappointed (like you said about your genius posts where no one agreed - I FEEL YOU. ;) ). Blogging because you love to is fulfilling in itself, and comments and new friends are just added blessings on the top! :'D

THANK YOU FOR TAGGING ME! :D And hehe, thanks, happy to make you laugh! *bows*
Unfortunately, no. I find it almost impossible to even speak, much less sing, while I'm playing the keyboard. Takes all my concentration just to get those notes right, lol.
      LOL, IKR.

Thank you! :D Haha, while it's kinda sad that you can relate to the no responses, I guess it's just a part of the beginning blogging process. And yup, *nods* I couldn't have said it better myself! Blogging is awesome by itself, and everything else just makes it even better. :D
