Hey all! I was tagged for this by the spectacular Tori from Stori Tori’s Blog. Thanks so much for thinking of me, Tori! :D

D: Do you read more in the morning or at night?
Neither really. I tend to do most of my reading in the afternoon.

A: Are there any books that changed the way you thought about things?
There are probably a lot actually, considering how much of my life I've spent reading, but the first one that comes to mind is Water Walker by Ted Dekker. That (as well as its sequel, Hacker), showed me a completely new perspective on... well, life. And faith. And what it truly means to trust God, what it should mean for us here and now that we have that assurance, that our spot in Heaven, forever in the presence of our God and Savior, is secureThat, from a certain perspective, nothing on Earth can touch us. Stepping back and looking at the book a few months later, I’m not sure I completely agree with all of the concepts, but there’s still a lot of great stuff in it

Anyway, mini-blog post over. Short answer to the question, Water Walker by Ted Dekker.

Y: YA or Not?
Please. Have you seen my Goodreads? Excepting the occasional Middle Grade, I don’t read anything else.

A: Are There Any Characters You Honestly Believe To Be Real?
*shrugs* Aren’t they all?

N: Nobody Borrows My Books, Or I Don’t Mind Lending Them Out?
This question is actually far more complicated than it appears at first sight, but the simple answer would be, it depends on the person. Some I can trust with my preciouses; others I cannot.

D: Do You Ever Smell Your Books?
I’m weird for a book person because no, not really. I mean, I have done it, but only because others seemed so enamored with the experience. And I mean, yeah, books obviously smell, but it’s not like I’m gonna spend all day breathing them in. I could be reading with that time, y’all.

N: Not Everyone Likes Books. Is This A Positive Or A Negative?

Is this a serious question? Obviously, it’s a negative. Like, I am really not sure how it could possibly be a positive, except that maybe there would be more books for me, then? But everyone should share in the awesomeness that is reading, and it’s only more fun when somebodys there to fangirl with you and you’re not just a pitiful bucket of lonely feels.

So yes. Definite a negative.

I: I keep my books in the best condition… or maybe not. Which are you?
I try. But if I’m being honest... not all of them are in pristine condition. Unfortunately, accidents happen: pages get bent, drinks spill, crumbs fall into the little crease between the pages, get smooshed, and then never come out. You know the drill.

But for the most part, I’d say yeah, my books are all in pretty good condition.

G: Gosh, I have too many books! True or false?
Again, is this a serious question? Can one ever have too many books?

giphy
Well, there you have it then.
H: Have You Ever Spilled Something On Or Stained Your Books? If So, How?
Well, yeah, like I mentioned above there’s tea, coffee, cookie crumbs. Once, one of my siblings threw a blanket over my head while I was drinking hot chocolate and reading a Nancy Drew book. The hot chocolate spilled. All. Over. The book. Needless to say, I was enraged.

T: Toned Or Untoned While Reading? In Other Words, Do You Read And Work Out At The Same time?
I was all ready to say no to this question, when I remembered that I used to ride my bike and listen to audiobooks at the same time. So yeah, I guess I have, though I don’t do it anymore. Now it’s music while exercising and reading after while recovering from said exercise.

And that’s the tag! Thanks again Tori for thinking of me!

For my part, I tag Zielle and Heather. As always, don’t feel obligated, but if you want to, here is the tag! :D

So have you ever exercised while reading? What do you think of audiobooks? Tell me about a book that radically changed the way you think. Can’t wait to see you in the comments section! :D

  1. I haven't exercised while reading because I'm that type of person who prefers to snuggle in the covers with a book drinking hot chocolate or tea. I'm also not a huge fan of audio-books. Sure, I haven't really listened to one (I've taken peeks of my mom listening to Mansfield Park), but I like reading how the characters sound in my mind. Though they are super great when you're a busy person.

    1. See, that just sounds so perfect. Snuggling under covers with a book and some hot chocolate... MMMMM. Literally, that would be the life. <3

I don't listen to audiobooks much anymore. No real reason, honestly; I've just found all the books I wanted in print form, so that's how I read them. I do love hearing how they sound in my mind, though.

  2. I like audio books, but I only use them for specific books. Sometimes I feel discouraged when reading because I see how many pages I have left; with an audio book, I don't track the hours I've been listening. I can feel the climax instead of simply seeing where I am in the physical book. I also like having an alternative if my library doesn't have the next book in a series. In general though, book always trumps e-book or audio book.
Also, I love your honesty concerning messy books. While new books are nice, I like the human imprint of a slightly damaged book. Dog-ear creases, smudges, and forgotten bookmarks are precious to me. I think they give the book more character. (Not to be confused with characters IN the book.) That's part of the reason I enjoy library books so much. Do you prefer the crisp, clean books or the obviously used ones?

    1. Hmm, I can definitely get that. I always track where I am by the number of pages I have left, and, especially if I'm not enjoying a book, it can get kinda annoying to see that I have like 300 pages left. Of course, I often stop reading at that point, so maybe if I listened to audiobooks, I'd finish more books, lol
Yeah, that's normally when I do audiobooks: if my library doesn't have a book I want in print form.

Thank you! And that's really cool! To be honest, though, I've never really thought about that kind of thing. Provided the book is still readable and not super gross, I don't really care about stains or dog ears or little things like that. And the crisp, new ones are sometimes hard to keep open. :p So yeah, I guess I do kind of like used books, if only for that one reason.

  3. I totally exercise while reading. I went through a time where I would read while doing sit ups and while walking/jogging (especially on the treadmill, although I got pretty good at not running into things elsewhere). I definitely don't think not reading books is a positive by any stretch of the imagination, but of course, a jury on that would have to recognize that I am extremely biased, but whatever. Books have definitely had radical impacts on my life, in many good ways. With some of the things I've been through, there were times when I stayed strong because [insert beloved cool character here] was strong and survived and overcame, so I had to do the same. As a young child, books were my best support. As for audiobooks, I don't listen to them often at all, but that's mainly because I don't own any and my old library didn't have any. Now, though, having moved I'm relatively near a library that does have a decent audiobook collection, so in a few months, when my schedule has cleared up a little, I may begin to check out their selection.

And oh my goodness, if my sister made me spill hot chocolate over one of my books, I would probably end up going to jail for homicide. But fortunately, a jury of my peers would mean a jury full of book worms, so they would all have mercy on me because they would understand that they would do the same thing in my shoes, so I guess it's all good in the end. :P

    1. Wow, *applauds you* That's pretty awesome. I would definitely end up running into things, lol

Ah, yeah, that's one of the greatest effects a good character can have on a reader, pushing you to keep going when you'd rather give up. :)

Cool! Think you'll post about your findings?

LOL, that is very, very true. I won't tell you what I did to the sibling, but suffice it to say, I did not end up in jail. *nods*

  4. This is a pretty awesome tag! Also those gifs were like the best thing ever. I don't read and run, because I like the silence, and my books, like yours, are in okay (but not excellent) condition. It really varies from book to book. I think you can have too many books, because I've moved a bit and now I just don't want to leave babies behind, so the library is my bff. If I could read all day I would, but I don't, but I usually read just before bed or any time if school isn't happening (which is a good time, trust me). We had really old books in English once, and they smelled amazing, so that was good. I do like old-book smell (but I don't do it all day). As for the should everyone read, I'm undecided. I wish reading made everybody happy, but seeing as it doesn't, I have friends and book bloggers to fangirl to. :)

    1. Thanks!

*grudgingly* Okaaay. I guess that would be a situation where having a lot of books would make life a little difficult.
And YES ME TOO. I get almost all the books I review from the library.

That is true. But fandoms are one of the few things where I feel like the more the merrier, lol

      Thanks for commenting!

  5. I do enjoy audiobooks but I do not think I could work out and read at the same time. I mean, I don't work out, but if I did, I wouldn't read while doing it. That sounds terrible. AND OF COURSE PEOPLE NOT LIKING BOOKS IS A NEGATIVE LIKE WHO THE HECK CAME UP WITH THAT QUESTION WHAT IS THE POSSIBLE BENEFIT OF PEOPLE NOT LIKING BOOKS? *glowers* Whatever. I'm going to be over it, now. Lovely answers, Alexa, and I am going to get to this very soon. Thanks for tagging me!

  6. I mostly only listen to audio books when I have a terrible headache. A few weeks ago there was a book I just COULDN'T GET THROUGH. (It was aggravating.) My sister suggested I listen to classical music while reading, and that helped.
