Melodic Mondays: Strange Way To Save The World by Jump5

Hey guys! In honor of the Holiday season, Ill be doing something a little bit different for my Monday posts this month. Because Christmas is fantastic and there are so many fantastic Christmas songs, instead of focusing on writing music and characters and the writerly meanings in various lyrics, I’m going to show you four of my favorite ever Christmas songs (in no particular order, seeing as I love way too many).

This week, I present to you: Strange Way To Save The World by Jump5

I’ve mentioned before that I used to be a big Jump5 fan (still am, actually. I just don’t listen to them as much as I used to), and this is one of my favorites by them. It’s such a beautiful song, and I love how it speaks to the strangeness and beauty in the true meaning of Christmas. I mean, when you think about it, sending the Son of God as a helpless newborn whose first crib is a feeding trough is a pretty out-there way to save us all from hell. But it had to be like that, so that we would understand that Jesus didnt come to be king on earth, to be worshiped from the start, and sit up somewhere high and intangible that we could never reach. He started at the bottom, serving us instead of the other way around, showing His vast love and humility by reaching out to us where we were, where we could see Him, where we could understand the truth of who He is and the depth of His love. He laid off all of His glory and began his human life as a lowly baby in a manger, so that we would actually see that He wasn’t coming to be served but to serve. To love us even at our lowest, to give His life to save us, and to show just how far He was willing reach to bring us back to God. :D

So what do you think of the song? Did you listen to Jump5 in their prime? (I didn’t, unfortunately, but discovered them after they’d broken up :( ) Have a favorite Christmas song to share with me? Can’t wait to see you in the comments!

  1. I actually got to sing the girl portions of this song when I was 8. I was in a church choir production and was given the part of Mary! I never knew until now the band who sang the song, so I'm going to have to go check out their other music now. Thank you for doing this post & enlightening me! ;)

    1. That's so cool! And you should totally check out their other music, though I don't think they're the only ones who sing this song. I'm pretty sure it's been performed by several other bands.
