Shipping Saturdays: Tonks and Lupin/The Harry Potter Series.

So I guess I’m a little behind on this fandom. I only read the first book about a year ago, and finished the series the week before last. My parents wouldn’t let me read it when I was younger, and for a while, I wasn’t actually that interested.

But around June of last year, one of my best friends was gushing about how much she loved the series. So, because we agree on pretty much everything fandom-wise, I decided to give it a try.

Just a note:
Trust me, I’m not the only one who’s taken this long to read it.

Tonks and Lupin are my favorite couple in this series. So yes, I was quite cross when they died, especially since they’d just had little Teddy. But, while I was shocked at the time, I didn’t really react. Too concentrated on the story to take it in, I guess.

Since the beginning of Deathly Hallows, I’d thought one of them would die in the last battle, but having them both go was a real sock in the stomach. So, when I finished the book, I was like, “No! Rowling, why???!!! How could you do this to me? Why kill them both?”

*sniff, sniff* Try not to cry.
Anyways, before I get hysterical, let’s talk about them specifically: I’ve loved Lupin since Prisoner of Azkaban. He’s officially the best Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher ever, and I really wish he could’ve gone back to his post. Class just wasn’t the same without him and that boggart.

Tonks felt kind of like a background character for a long time, but I liked her even then. I mean someone who can change appearance at will, has bubblegum pink hair, and goes by her last name has gotta be pretty cool.

All the same, they were a shocking couple. I mean, I never saw that one coming. Ever. The only couple that surprised me more was Bill and Fleur. Literally, they came out of nowhere. I’m still not sure how that even happened.

Anyways, when Tonks announced her love for Lupin at the end of the Half-Blood Prince, I was totally taken aback. Like, “Wait, what? You’re kidding, right?”

But nobody laughed and it was a bad time for jokes, so I figured she was quite sirius.

Badump-kshh
After a while, though, I grew to like them. When Remus left her in the Deathly Hallows, I yelled at him even though he’s a fictional character and can’t actually hear me. But Harry had my back; he chewed Lupin out when I couldn’t (Thanks, Harry). Admittedly, he was a bit harsh, but somebody had to say something, because Wolfman clearly wasnt thinking straight.

When I found out they were back together, I think I actually grinned. Just glad that Tonks and Lupin, both of whom had gone through so much and deserved happiness, could finally be together.

Of course then they had to go and die. But at least they weren’t without each other very long.

*Sigh* True Love.
As for the series as a whole, I rather like it. To be honest, I don’t think it’s as awesome as all the hype would suggest, but I did enjoy it. My favorite book is the Deathly Hallows, followed by the Half-Blood Prince, Goblet of Fire, and Prisoner of Azkaban (Prince and Goblet are tied for second).

So, assuming you’ve read it, what did you think of Harry Potter? And who’s your favorite couple in the series?

On an utterly unrelated note, some of my writer friends and I are beginning a monthly link-up, posting snippets of story ideas on our blogs. I'm gonna do mine next week, but you can go ahead and check out the link here.

  1. I enjoyed Harry Potter a lot more when I was in elementary school, and it's still good for a sentimental read. And I, of course, did like Tonks and Lupin's story--but I also like that their death became an opportunity for Harry to sort of step up and become Teddy's "dad" in a way. It all works out in the end.

And as for my favorite couple? It's dumb, but Molly and Arthur Weasley. Always.

    1. That's not dumb. They actually are really great together. Though, it's funny, I never really thought about it.
