Melodic Mondays: Word Crimes by Weird Al

Before I get to today’s song, I have an announcement to make. If you’ve been a writer for a while (or know someone who has), you’ve probably heard of National Novel Writing Month or, as you’ll often see it online, NaNoWriMo. Even if you’d never heard the name before this moment, the words “National Novel Writing Month” are fairly self-explanatory and, as you might guess, writing a novel in a month takes an immense amount of time. So much time, my friends, that I’ll have to be a bit less active on Summer Snowflakes for the rest of this month.

I’ll still post twice a week, but Mondays, I won’t talk about the song as much (if at all), and Thursdays will be “Throwback Thursdays,” writer’s edition. Instead of telling you my thoughts every Thursday, I’ll post an excerpt from one of my old NaNo novels and ask you for your thoughts. This will probably be utterly humiliating, but hopefully, we’ll all see how my writing has improved over the past few years.

If we don’t, I will be very depressed.

To finally get to the melodic part of this Monday, my song for the week is Word Crimes by Weird Al. It’s not the sort of song I’d normally post about because I’ve never actually listened to it while writing. But since this little parody names every writer’s pet peeve and a million more to boot, I figured it was close enough.

Hope you enjoyed it as much as I did! Ciao!

  1. My English teacher actually showed this to our class on Halloween. I'd seen it before, but that made it no less awesome. :D
